circumbalticum – Special: Sääre tirp

There are two large islands off Estonia’s west coast: Saaremaa and Hiiumaa. At the southern tip of Hiiumaa, the smaller of the two islands, lies Sääre tirp, a narrow headland that stretches two kilometres into the Baltic Sea. According to legend, Sääre tirp was built by a giant who wanted to create a land bridge to Saaremaa. However, he did not quite manage to do so.
